The Start of the 50-50 Challenge
Every year I challenge my clients to set a 50-50 goal. This is a goal where you have a 50% shot of achieving it and a 50% chance of failing.
The power of a 50-50 goal is it stretches you mentally, physically and essentially pushes you to re-invent who you are.
One morning a couple of months back I woke to a midnight text from my son.
“Dad - my friends and I decided to sign up for a 50 mile race in March. Can you help me train?”
When he woke up the conversation went a little like this.
“Jon, is this serious?”
“Yep.”
“You’ve never run more than about 3 miles right?”
“Yep.”
“Walk me through your thought process.”
“I want something big so I change and become better.”
“Ok”
That night as I lay my head on the pillow I couldn’t shake a thought from my mind.
I turn 50 in May…50 miles a couple of months before my 50th could be MY perfect 50-50 goal.
The next morning the conversation continued.
“Hey buddy I’ve got a question.”
“Yeah?”
“Do you want me to come and support you or would you be ok if I trained and tried to do the race with you?”
No hesitation…”oh yeah! Come do it dad!”
“Cool…I’m in. You cool if we call it the 50-50 challenge?”
“Yep”
So - here we are.
This is my true 50-50 challenge.
Can I run 50 miles in a grueling trail race before I turn 50?
Follow along to see if we can make it!
